You know the classic Newton story: apple, head, gravity, genius. The real moment was far simpler. Newton was sitting in his family orchard, daydreaming, when a falling apple made him suddenly wonder why things always drop straight down. That tiny “wait… why?” moment pulled him into ideas that ended up reshaping science. The apple didn’t bounce off his head, it bounced into his thinking.
Children do this every day. A tilt of the head, a odd detail they notice, a question forming before they’ve found the words. Curiosity doesn’t need a big experiment; it needs a moment. And that’s exactly why this year’s British Science Week theme Curiosity lands so beautifully in the classroom.
